A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court on Monday requesting the Central Government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of the national capital to direct paid leave and periodic rest for women workers during menstruation.
The petition has requested special casual leave or paid leave to women as it states that menstruation is deeply associated with human dignity and rest to maintain separate toilet facilities and hygiene during this period, special casual or By not giving paid leave, officers are denying women employees their human respect. However, this petition could not be heard on Monday as the bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jain did not sit on this day. The matter has now been listed for hearing on 23 November.
The petition has been filed by the Delhi Mazdoor Sangh through advocate Rajiv Aggarwal and the Center and the states will be given a paid leave of four days a month to women employees of all classes including daily wage earners, contract workers, and outsourcers or if they do duty It has been requested to give instructions to give overtime for the period. Apart from this, the petition has also requested to provide comfort to women employees during menstruation, clean toilet, and sanitary napkin facilities.
