Recoveries more than new cases in Meghalaya, 2295 active cases in state

SHILLONG: Recoveries went past fresh infections in Meghalaya on Saturday with 298 patients recovering in the last 24 hours as opposed to 101 new Covid-19 cases. With this, the state’s cumulative count now stands at 8,404 of which 2,295 are active cases as 6,034 patients have already recovered.
“Of the new cases, 56 were detected in East Khasi Hills, 30 in West Khasi Hills, 11 in West Garo Hills, two cases in Ri-Bhoi and one each in South West Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts,” a senior official in the health department said today.
With 1,521 active Covid-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, of which Shillong is a part, is the worst-affected district in the state.
Meanwhile, of the new recoveries registered on Saturday, 223 were from East Khasi Hills, 55 from Ri-Bhoi, 18 from West Garo Hills and one each from East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts, the health official added.
As per the medical bulletin issued by the health department, the total number of persons tested for Covid-19 infection till October 17 stands at 1,85,467. Meghalaya has recorded 75 deaths and as such, the fatality rate stands at 0.90%.
While 1,092 are in institutional quarantine, 683 are under home quarantine/isolation. Currently, there are 66 containment zones in the state, the health bulletin informed.
