Five killed in Meghalaya accident

SHILLONG: Five persons were killed when a truck loaded with shredded bamboo, which was proceeding from Mawrungkneng towards Guwahati, hit five roadside vegetable vendors, including four women, on the Shillong bypass road at around 8 am on Saturday.
According to police, the truck on reaching Shillong bypass Umkhen bridge Thangshalai dashed against another dumper truck and subsequently hit the five persons, identified as Balarihun Kharkongor (27), Gracefully Nongbri (23), Banteibha Bina (20), Shantilang Nongbri (28) and Korbarsing Kharduid (52).
“All of them are from Thangshalai village under Mawryngkneng PS. The four women died on the spot while one person died on the way to the hospital,” a cop said.
