PWD plans two flyovers to decongest Nandankanan Road

BHUBANESWAR: To facilitate smooth management of city traffic and decongest roads, the public works department (PWD) here plans to build two new flyovers on the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road.
According to the plan, the two flyovers will come up at Kalinga Hospital Square and Damana Square. The PWD also plans to increase lanes on the road from the existing six to eight.
“A consultant has been engaged to prepare the master plan. The sketch and map have already been prepared. The detailed project report will be ready very soon,” a senior PWD official said.
Sources said the flyover projects had got the initial approval of the PWD during a high-level departmental meeting recently. The final approval will be given after the plan is scrutinized.
“The consultant has come up with the sketch after finishing a field survey. It has now been asked to prepare the project report for both flyovers and for the eight-laning of the road,” chief engineer (roads) Manoranjan Misra said.
The Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road is one of the busiest in the city. The two junctions where the flyovers will be built are also among the most bustling. The road is home to several educational institutions and commercial establishments. It also has residential areas in localities such as Sailashree Vihar and Niladri Vihar. “This is a much-needed project. We have to wait for a long time to cross these two junctions everyday. I hope the flyover plans receive immediate approval. It will be of great relief for us,” Chandrasekharpur resident Niranjan Mishra said.
