NOIDA: The Noida Authority on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs 11.15 lakh on defaulters for polluting air, water and environment. As many as 34 individuals, construction companies and establishments were identified during the drive and were fined.
Among them AG Enviro and Chennai MSW, the two private agencies engaged by Noida Authority to collect waste and carry out mechanical sweeping, were issued a fine of Rs 1 lakh each for not following the terms and conditions of their contract. During the survey, authority officials spotted three overflowing waste bins in Sector 66 and 67 on Saturday, following which AG Enviro was issued a notice to deposit Rs 1 lakh as fine. “The bin was overflowing and stray animals were feeding on the waste scattered on the road in Sector 67,” said Avinash Tripathi, officer on special duty.

Similarly, Chennai MSW was not conducting mechanical sweeping as per the guidelines and was asked to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Officials from the water works department of Noida Authority carried out inspection at six sites and at four places, it was found that the contractor was not disposing sand and soil after sewerage excavation properly. In a separate crackdown, 14, nine and three private defaulters from circles II, VI and VII, respectively were fined of Rs 3.5 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 60,000, respectively.
