Mapusa: Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo said that funds allocated for cutting bushes along major district road (MDR) are not sufficient as the wards are big, and added that in this connection he would be soon meet the Panchayat Minister along with the  representatives of all panchayats in his constituency.

The issue of bush cutting along the MDR was raised by the representatives of panchayats from Aldona constituency  with Ticlo, and had demanded to resolve it.

The panchayat representatives, during a joint meeting, had stated that the allocation of funds – Rs 3,500 for 10 days to clear the bushes is not sufficient as the size of wards is big and the task would require more funds.

Sarpanch of Uccassaim Paliem- Punola Anand Gadekar said that “for bush cutting, we were told that Rs 3,500 will be given for 10 days which is not enough, and now, we are told that Rs 500 per day will be given which again is not sufficient.”

“Now, we have approached our MLA Glenn Ticlo requesting him to give us additional funds, which are required for clearing the bushes and he has assured us that he would take up the matter,” said Gadekar.

Ticlo said that “earlier the PWD used to cut the bushes along the MDR, but now the responsibility is given to the Directorate of Panchayats.”

“Rs 3,500 for 10 days is not sufficient as our wards are big in size and will need more funds. Daily labour charges stand at minimum of Rs 600- 700 per day, and if we calculate,  then around Rs 16,000 – Rs18,000 should be given,” said Ticlo.

He further added that “I will soon meet the Panchayat Minister along with my panchayat representatives and raise this issue with him.”
