CHENNAI: DMK leader M K Stalin on Sunday demanded the AIADMK government to launch a scheme like MGNREGA to generate employment opportunities in urban areas.
He also demanded the state government to extend financial aid of Rs 5000 per family.
"People are suffering due to unemployment and no income, but chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami chose to neglect it. The government should launch a scheme to generate employment exclusively for urban dwellers,” Stalin said in a statement and advised the ruling government that it should not forget the wise words of former chief minister C N Annadurai.
He recalled Anna’s statement on unemployed and said that living along the roadside and intrusive thoughts pondering an unemployed mind determines the state of affair at a given time.
He noted that the government was keen on floating tenders that would fetch them benefits and 'commission. '
Former RBI governor C Rangarajan-led committee submitted its report a month ago, recommending measures to stimulate the economy and the industry that was hit badly due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown.
However, the government has not made the report public nor taken any concrete measures based on the committee’s recommendations till date.
The government has resorted to publicity campaigns, highlighting MoUs signed with industries and investors. This is done by the government to divert the attention of public from the government’s failures, he said.
