Kochi, Oct 18 (UNI) Former IT secretary M Sivasankar revealed that consulate

employees used a code language for smuggling items through diplomatic baggage,

sources said on Sunday.

Sivasankar told the Enforcement Directorate that Swapna Suresh, an accused in the

gold smuggling case, had revealed to him that ' Consul is eating mangoes' was the code used by the employees.

Sivasankar stated that Swapna informed him that consulate officers smuggled many

items other than gold through diplomatic channels.

Swapna had asked Sivasankar to exert pressure on customs officials for the release of

the baggage that contained gold. This was when Swapana told Sivasankar about the

code language and other details.

Many items including cosmetics were smuggled through diplomatic channels. These

items were then sold near Beemapally in Thiruvananthapuram, he said.
