A 30-year-old member of the Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM), affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, was repeatedly stabbed allegedly by a local councillor and his two unidentified associates in Bulandshahr’s Kakod town on Saturday night after an altercation over the price of a gas stove. Councillor Nafis has been arrested while others are at large.
Rahul Kumar Jaiswal, who own a gas stove shop, was taken to a local government hospital from where he was transferred to a Noida hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
Police said Jaiswal was accosted by a drunk Nafis and others while he was returning home in Kakod at night. The accused cornered Jaiswal near a bank, stabbed him 10 times and fled, said police.
“Nafis has been arrested while the hunt is on for two unidentified persons. Nafis and Jaiswal recently had a row over price of a gas stove which Nafis had bought from the shop,” R B Singh, in charge of Kakod police station, told The Indian Express over the phone. He said Jaiswal is the co-convener of HJM’s Bulandshahr unit. In the FIR, Kumar’s wife, Rekha, named Nafis and two others for the attack. Dozens of HJM workers and local traders staged a demonstration outside Kakod police station and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Policemen from six police stations and PAC personnel had been deployed in Kakod as a precaution, said Singh.
