NASHIK: The overall trend has been of a decline in the Covid-19 cases, but there has been no letup in the number of critical patients in the city.
Around 25% of the total patients under active treatment are in critical condition. On October 15, around 913 of the total 3,553 active patients were critical. Of these 913 critical patients, 565 are on oxygen support, 245 under ICU treatment and 103 patients on ventilators.
Around a month back, 1,148 (18.27%) of the total 6,281 active patients were critical.
Nashik Municipal Corporation officials said that earlier, oxygen beds were provided only to those patients who required it. This was because of lack of availability. They have increased the number of oxygen beds and provide those to patients whose oxygen level is at the border for fast recovery, said NMC officials.
Till August-end, they had only 1,210 beds for critical patients. The number of beds available for critical patients has been increase up to 2,030 beds. Of these, 1,117 beds are vacant, said NMC officials.
“Moreover, considering the government projection of a second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the months of November and December, we are adding another 350 oxygen beds in Bytco hospital within a week,” said NMC officials.
The officials said that they were also giving permission to around a dozen private hospitals for providing treatment to Covid-19. This will add another 100 oxygen beds through private hospitals.
Officials said that the availability of 2,500 beds for critical patients would be enough, considering that the total cases may touch 10,000 in winter, said NMC officials.
