Kolkata, Oct 17 (UNI) A teenage boy and sexagenarinan woman were killed and three others sustained burn injuries when fire broke out at an eight-storied residential building in central part
of the city, police said while forensic experts visited this morning to determine the cause of blaze.
The fire was first reported atop the building around 2230 hours last night when most of the residents were preparing to go to sleep. The fire later spread to the immediate lower floor before
the fire brigade arrived.
As many as 12 fire fighting vehicles and a huge hydraulic ladder were used to combat the blaze before any further damage to the building could take place. As many as 48 families reside in the multi-storied building at 21 Ganesh Chandra Avenue, near the Hind Inox in the central part of the city.
Panic struck again early this morning when smoke was billowing from the rubble when the residents put out the cinders.
Primary report said fire at meter box on the ground floor and faulty and jumble electrical wiring caused the fire to have spread quckly.
A 12-year-old boy and a 60-year old woman died in the fire . The woman was struck in the bathroom and the boy fell off the building.
Meanwhile, West Bengal fire minister Sujit Bose visited the site.
Forensic experts visited the building to examine the case.
Three three wounded people have been admitted to the SSKM hospital with various degrees of burn.
