Guwahati: 4 held for fuel theft near city refinery

GUWAHATI: Assam crime branch, along with city police, on Friday busted a fuel-theft racket near Guwahati refinery and arrested four persons in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Bulbul Bhuyan (34) of Borbala under Howly police station in Barpeta district, Bhabesh Gogoi (32) of Deughoria under Tengakhat police station in Dibrugarh district, Mominul Hoque (46) of Kamalpur in Barpeta district and Shivnath Nunia (46) of Silchar in Barak Valley.
The sleuths seized around 1,400 litres of diesel from different places under the jurisdiction of Noonmati police station. “We are carrying out the drive aggressively along with the crime branch. There is another suspected place from where nearly 1,000 litres of diesel is expected to be recovered,” Nilotpal Deka, ACP Noonmati division, said.
He added that the miscreants steal fuel from the fuel tankers parked in the area.
On the other hand, Excise Intelligence Bureau sleuths seized a huge consignment of Indian-made foreign liquor in Sonapur, which is on the outskirt of the city, and apprehended two persons.
The accused — Ranjan Dimary and Habibul Haque — were en-route to Borgohain Enterprise Bonded Warehouse Pvt Limited in Mariani, Jorhat district, from Himalayan Distillery Pvt Limited factory when their vehicle was intercepted and the IMFL was seized. Around 4,000 litres of illegal liquor was recovered from the vehicle.
