THANE: More than 20 years after a homemaker was murdered in a contract killing case for Rs 5,000, the Thane crime branch traced one of the accused to a village in Mehsana, Gujarat, and arrested him. On February 18, 2000, Kunda Rawal (35) was found murdered in her home at Wagle Estate.
The police found that the victim's husband had hired two people to kill her, as the couple often argued and he suspected she was having an affair. The two smashed her head with a tile and left her to die. While the husband was arrested, the police were unable to trace the "contract killers", said sub inspector Dattar Sarak. They were later identified as Mehsana residents Shambu Manubai Rawal and Suresh Nhavi, from the same village as the husband. Recently arrested Shambu (46) told the police that Nhavi had died in December 2015.
