Coronavirus: 4,295 fresh cases, 57 deaths reported in TN

Chennai, Oct 17 (UNI) The cumulative tally of COVID-19 positive cases in Tamil Nadu increased to 6,83,486 on Saturday, with the State reporting 4,295 more infections, while the death toll mounted to 10,586 with 57 more fatalities.

Health department in its bulletin said of the 57 deaths, 30 were reported in government hospitals and 27 in private hospitals.

The total number of active cases stood at 40,192.


A total of 90,242 samples were tested by RT-PCR in the last 24 hours taking the total number of samples tested till date to 88,56,280.

A total of 5,005 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recovered cases to 6,32,708.

Chennai recorded 1,132 fresh cases today, taking the city’s caseload to 1,88,944 while the death toll increased to 3,504 with 15 more fatalities.
