Odisha reports 2196 new Covid cases,17 deaths

Bhubaneswar,Oct 17 (UNI) The covid tally in Odisha today shot up to 2,66,345 with the fresh detection of 2196 new cases in the past 24 hours.
At least 17 covid patients died in the past 24 hours in the state raising the covid toll to 1121.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 2196 new cases,1251 were detected from the quarantine centres and the rest 887 are local contact cases.
Of the 17 covid deaths reported in the past 24 hours, Khordha district alone accounted for five deaths, followed by two in Cuttack and one each in rest 10 districts.
Seven major Covid prone districts such as Khordha, Ganjam , Cuttack ,Puri Balasore, Sundrgarh and Rayagada together accounted for 1,29,131 ( 49.28 per cent) covid positive cases and 745 ( 66.45 per cent) deaths.
Official sources said so far 40,01,065 test were conducted in the state and 2,66,345 of them were found to be infected with the coronavirus.
The fatality rate in the stands at 0.4 per cent with 1121 covid deaths reported so far from the districts.
With the recovery of 2,850 people on Friday, the total recovery has gone up to 2,41,385, about 90.62 per cent.
The active cases also stand at 23,786 which is 8.93 per cent of the total positive cases in the state.
Sources said only six districts have reported more than 100 new covid cases during the past 24 hours.Khordha district has registered highest number of 368 cases followed by Cuttack ( 186),Angul ( 170),Sundargarh ( 161),Mayurbhanj (134) and Balasore ( 106 ).
Ganjam has registered the highest number of 225 covid deaths followed by Khordha( 191), Cuttack(98), Puri (74),Balasore ( 62),Sundargarh ( 55) and Rayagada ( 40).
