NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Saturday at an event said the "deeply disturbed" border areas along the LAC with China is obviously affecting India-China's bilateral relations.
The external affairs minister said the relationship between India and China, which was "very difficult", was normalised since late 1980s through a plethora of initiatives like trade, travel, tourism, and societal activities on the premise of peace and tranquillity along the border.
"There must be peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control in the border areas... If these are deeply disturbed then obviously there be will an impact on the relationship & that is what we are seeing," said S Jaishankar.
Jaishankar said both China and India are rising and assuming "bigger" role in the world, but the "big question" is how the two countries find an "equilibrium".
The foreign minister also said that India understands the "border question" is a complicated and difficult issue.
The two countries have been engaged in a standoff position since April-May timeframe and the Chinese have refused to vacate areas in the Finger area and other friction points in the Eastern Ladakh area.
The situation became more precarious after the clash in Galwan, where 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, with 43 soldiers from the Chinese side getting killed, as per the reports.
The two countries have continued talks on the diplomatic and military levels despite much success, with India calling for complete disengagement at LAC.
