'Is PM Modi's Sabka Vishwas just hollow slogan', Congress asks BJP

Mumbai, Oct 17 (UNI) Coming down heavily on the Opposition BJP leaders for insulting Maharashtra and trying to defame the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the Congress, one of the constituents of MVA, on Saturday sought action against BJP's Atul Bhatkhalkar for demanding to close down all the 'madrassas' in the state and asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi government's slogan of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas" was just a poll plank.
Talking to reporters here, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and spokesperson Sachin Sawant referred to Mr Bhatkhalkar's demand of closing down all the 'madrassas' in the state and said that he has gone against the Modi government's slogan of "Sabka Vishwas".
"Was this slogan just a poll plank ? And so, the BJP national president J P Nadda and Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil should either say that the slogan of Mr Modi was a sham or take action against Mr Bhatkhalkar," he said.
He further said, "(M S) Golwalkar still exists in the mind of every BJP worker and there is no doubt that that there are several double standards in BJP role. It is well known that the party does not believe in the Constitution of the country, but they do not believe in the constitution of their own party."
The Congress leader suggested that BJP should remove the word "secularism" from the party's constitution and said Mr Bhatkhalkar should have consulted with his party's senior leaders on their stand on the issue before making such a demand.
To make his point clear, Mr Sawant recounted what former HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi had said on August 20, 2001, during Atal Behari Vajpayee's government, when he made it clear that Prime Minister Vajpayee had no intention of interfering in the affairs of 'madrasas'.
He had also made it clear that subjects like Science, Maths, Social Science and General knowledge should be taught as well in the 'madrasas', the Congress leader said.
Not only that but in February 2002, Mr Joshi had announced that the central government was providing grants to over a thousand 'madrassas', he noted.
"It is surprising that BJP leaders are also insulting Mr Vajpayee and they are not even respecting the role of PM Modi," he said.
Mr Sawant pointed out that on June 11, 2019, Union Minister for Minority Development Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had announced steps to modernize the 'madrassas' by imparting training in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science and Computer to the teachers of the madrassas.
Even PM Modi had said that his vision for Muslim youth is Quran in one hand and computer in the other hand while giving the slogan of ‘Sab Ka Vishwas’, he said.
"It is already clear that there are too many differences between PM Modi's actions and his speeches that this declaration of 'Sabka Vishwas' is completely hollow. However, now Mr Bhatkhalkar's statement further underlines that PM Modi's 'Sab Ka Vishwas' is just a hollow slogan," the Congress leader noted.
"Do BJP's national president J P Nadda and state president Chandrakant Patil agree with the stand taken by Mr Bhatkhalkar If so, they should accept that PM Modi's 'Sab Ka Vishwas' is a hollow slogan or else action should be taken against Mr Bhatkhalkars," added Mr Sawant.
