IMPHAL: The
Manipur government on Thursday distributed immune-booster medicines free of cost to Covid-19
patients who are in home isolation.
Legislator Sapam Ranjan — health advisor to chief minister N Biren Singh — distributed three different immune-enhancer medicines through the chief medical officers of all districts at a function in
Imphal.
The step has been taken by the government to enhance immune system of such patients, said Ranjan who is also a doctor.
A total of 681 patients of the 1,088 on home isolation in different parts of the state have recovered after testing negative for the virus, official sources said.
The government is planning to expand the Covid care facility at the state-run
JNIMS hospital in Imphal by enhancing the number of beds and health service providers for treatment of Covid patients who have symptoms, said Ranjan.
As winter is arriving in the state, Ranjan appealed to people to follow
Covid-19 guidelines to combat further spread. “Every individual in home isolation should strictly follow the standing guidelines. The
state health officials are also supervising them. I think every individual has the responsibly to fight together against coronavirus,” Ranjan said, adding that the government has also stepped up public awareness on the disease at different places in the state.
On the other hand, the state government, taking serious note of the rising Covid cases and fatalities, is mulling converting a hotel in Imphal as a Covid care centre, sources said.
To oversee the ongoing Covid-19 treatment at JNIMS and
RIMS hospitals here, the state government has also assigned two IAS officers there, the sources added.
There is likelihood of declaring total lockdown at containment zones by the state government if Covid-19 cases increase there.
