NAGPUR: Naik police constable Jyoti Pantawane (Nagarkar), posted at Kotwali police station, helped a 20-year-old shop employee get back his bag having Rs 43,300 cash that had fallen off his bike near Shivaji Statue at Gandhi gate in Mahal on Wednesday.
Pantawane, along with others, was present at the Gandhi gate when she saw the bag falling off a speeding bike. Pantawane picked it up waited for the biker to return. When he didn’t, she opened it and was stunned to see cash inside. She immediately deposited it with the day officer at Kotwali police station.
Pantawane, who joined the service in 2005, said she did not count the money. “We kept the bag at the police station. After some time, two people turned up claiming it. They could correctly tell the exact amount of money in it (Rs 43,300) following which it was returned to them after completing the formalities,” said Pantawane.
The constable said the cash was meant to be distributed among the employees of a shop. “I had been always into charity work with the help of my husband (Avinash) who encourages me to do such humanitarian activities. Even during the pandemic, we had been distributing food and extending whatever help it was possible for us,” she said.
