India elected Solar Alliance chief again

NEW DELHI: The International Solar Alliance on Wednesday re-elected its co-founders India and France as the president and co-president, respectively, for a two-year term.
ISA is the first treatybased international government organisation that has its headquarters in India. The organisation has often been seen as New Delhi’s response to China’s OBOR (One Belt One Road) initiative that aims to expand Beijing’s influence through massive investments in infrastructure projects.
Ten largest governmentrun energy companies presented a cheque of $1 million each during the assembly.
An ISA statement said representatives of Fiji and Nauru were chosen as the vice-presidents for Asia Pacific Region. Mauritius and Niger will be the vice-presidents for Africa region; UK and the Netherlands for Europe. Cuba and Guyana assumed the vice presidency for Latin America and the Caribbean region.
