JAMMU: Police on Friday arrested a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable in Rajouri district, three days after he fled his camp in Nagam area in Budgam district with his service rifle and its magazine on October 13. The magazine was retrieved but the weapon was yet to be traced.
A senior police officer said that during routine naka inspection, a fruit-laden truck on the way to Jammu from Srinagar via the Mughal Road was intercepted on the Jammu-Poonch highway in Manjakote area. While checking, the missing SSB constable Altaf Hussain was found sitting with the driver and was arrested on the spot. The Insas magazine he had decamped with was also recovered from him.
Rajouri Police said they were investigating the matter and would hand over the absconder to Budgam Police.
