Supreme court sent a notice to the central government, said-Law and government orders should be in general English

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Central Government on the PIL that sought to publish the law, government order, notification, etc. in general English so that the common man can understand.

A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, and Justice V Ramasubramaniam asked the Law Ministry and others to file a reply to this petition filed by Dr. Subhash Vijayan.

The petition said that the English language which is currently used in law, government orders, notifications, etc., is beyond the comprehension of the common man. When these things are beyond the understanding of the common man, then how can the dream of the common man's access to justice be realized.

Due to not being in normal English, it is highly impossible for people to understand them. This also spoils the time of court and lawyers. The petition also states that during LLB studies, a subject 'Legal writing in simple English' should be included.
