Patna, Oct 16 (UNI) Bihar Panchayati Raj Minister and senior JD(U) leader Kapil Dev Kamat died of Covid-19 infection here in wee hours.
He was 69.
Family sources said, Mr Kamat was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna after he was infected with Covid-19 one week back. He was also suffering with complications in his kidney.
Mr Kamat was put on dialysis after kidney failure and he was also on ventilator due to deteriorating condition. Despite best efforts, doctor attending on him could not save his life and he breathed his last in wee hours.
Mr Kamat was elected on JD(U) ticket from Babu Barhi in 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections. Ms Meena Kamat, daughter-in-law of Mr Kamat was given ticket by JD(U) after his illness.
Bihar governor Fagu Chauhan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and several other leaders also condoled the death of Mr Kamat and described it as great loss to Bihar politics. In his message, Mr Chauhan said that Mr Kamat was a popular leader and had worked for upliftment of weaker section and deprived.
Chief Minister Mr Kumar described the death of Mr Kamat as his personal loss. Departed leader was an able administrator and popular leader, he noted.
The Chief Minister also ordered for a state funeral of the departed leader in accordance with guidelines issued in view of prevailing Corona pandemic.
