Hooch tragedy: Cops suspended, Addl CS to probe matter

Bhopal, Oct 15 (UNI) Four law-enforcement personnel were placed under suspension on Thursday in the wake of the death of eight individuals following consumption of illicit liquor in Ujjain, it was officially learnt.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh – in compliance with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s directive – initiated action against Kharakua Station House Officer ML Meena, Sub-Inspector Niranjan Sharma, the Rapid Action Force’s Shaikh Anwar and Constable Nawaz Shareef.

The senior politician chaired a related meeting earlier in the day.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a beverage named ‘ginger’ was responsible for the fatalities.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Kumar Rajora has been appointed as the Investigating Officer.
