Around half of pollution complaints yet to be addressed

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Around half of the complaints with regard to the pollution in the Delhi NCR are still pending, looking at which an arrangement is being made this year so that the same automatically reaches to the officials.
According to CPCB sources, around 44 per cent complaints from the past years are pending, and due to this a facility has been added to the SAMEER App this year which will enable the complaint to be automatically forwarded to the higher official of the agency concerned in case the same is not addressed in a given time frame.
This will bring a difference and improve timely resolution of the complaints.
Speaking at a press conference here, CPCB chief Shiv Das Meena said that the feature will be added to the SAMEER app in the coming two days.
For the past couple of years the CPCB in view of keeping an eye on the factors and people causing pollution, forms 50 teams in the winter season when the pollution problem hits peak and these teams visit the areas around Delhi NCR and monitor pollution and observe the pollution causing factors and also register complaints and take necessary actions in this regard.
There is also a provision for the people to register their complaints regarding polluting elements from the surroundings using the app.
CPCB's member secretary Prashant Gargava who was also at the briefing here said that earlier the teams used to be deployed between October 15 to January 15, but, this year the teams will continue their work upto February 2021.
This decision has been taken this time in view of the rise in PM 2.5 during February this year as compared to February 2019 in the 12 hotspots of Delhi.
The CPCB has also said that overall there was a reduction of 25 per cent in PM 10 levels and 19 per cent reduction in PM 2.5 levels as compared to what it was in the year 2016.
