BENGALURU: Congress on Thursday rejected police's attribution of internal party rivalry as the reason for attack on its MLA R Akhanda Srinivasamurthy's house during the August violence.
Blaming the government for the incident, KPCC president DK Shivakumar said the allegations were part of the conspiracy against his party and accused police of acting as agents of the ruling BJP. He also rejected Srinivasamurthy's demand for suspension of party functionaries named in the chargesheet, terming it his "political agenda."
"Congress has nothing to do with the riots. Our leaders are being named with an intention to taint our party," Shivakumar said. He added the party would take up the issue politically and legally.
CCB police have charged former mayor Sampath Raj and ex-Pulakeshinagar corporator Abdul Rakeeb Zakir with planning the attack due to political rivalry.
