Former Arunachal minister Tsering Tashi passes away

Itanagar, Oct 16 (UNI) Former Arunachal Pradesh minister Tsering Tashi passed away last night at his residence here after prolonged illness. He was 69 and survived by wife, son and a daughter.
Born in Khirmu village in Tawang district, Late Tsering Tashi had attended the Sainik School in Orissa’s Bhubaneshwar , and graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat.
He came into active politics in 1978, and won the midterm polls in 1980. He was inducted into the government as one of the five cabinet ministers immediately after his first election victory.
In his first term in office, he held the portfolios of PWD and cooperative, among others. In his second term in office, he held the portfolios of the department of Social-Culture, Finance, RWD, Law and Elections.
Late Tsering Tashi was instrumental in getting Tawang the district status in 1984, and in the formation of the Itanagar Buddhist Culture Society.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Assembly Speaker PD Sona on Friday condoled the demise of former Minister.
In his condolence letter, the Governor said, “ Late Tashi was a man of varied interests and made lasting contributions in the promotion of literary works, social activities, indigenous culture and traditions. In his demise the State has lost a senior and distinguished leader who left a lasting imprint in different areas of public life.”
'' I join the people of Arunachal Pradesh to pray to the Almighty God for eternal peace for the departed soul and give you and other members of the bereaved family fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,'' he said .
In his condolence message, Khandu wrote “the news of the sad demise of Late Tsering Tashi, former minister and a first generation leader came as a shocker to me. Late Tsering Tashi was a living legend and inspiration to many.”
Condoling Tashi’s demise, the Speaker that he was an experienced and committed leader, who made important contributions towards the development of State.
“With the demise of Shri Tsering Tashi, the State has lost a prominent leader and great Arunachali citizen,” stated Sona while conveying sincere and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The Speaker also prayed to the Lord Buddha for eternal peace of his departed soul.
The last rites of former Minister Tsering Tashi will be performed on Monday.
