20-year-old woman promised to be cast in music video, raped in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: A 20-year-old aspiring singer and model was allegedly raped by an executive of a private company in Gurugram. The complainant told police that the accused lured her on the pretext of helping her in getting a lead role in a YouTube music video and raped her.
According to police, the woman, a resident of Ashok Vihar, has been aspiring to make her identity in the field of singing and dancing. “She had also posted some of her videos on YouTube and was looking for an opportunity to feature in some music video,” a police officer said.
The woman visited her acquaintance in Sector 31 in connection with her work where she met the accused. The man introduced himself as a producer of a YouTube music video and promised to make her popular and offered her the lead role in an upcoming video.
“The accused took the woman to a hotel in Sector 31 to record her sample video and forced himself on her. The survivor was then threatened to keep quiet about the incident,” the officer added.
She went home and shared everything with her parents following which a case was registered on Wednesday at Sector 40 police station under sections 376(rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
“My daughter was under depression for past few days, after repeated inquiry she finally shared her ordeal,” the woman’s mother said, adding that the accused had lured her on the name of offering a role in a music video. “She wanted to make her name in the field of dance and music and took it as an opportunity but she was exploited. I want strict actions against the man,” she said.
“On the basis of the woman’s complaint a case has been registered and a police team has been formed to investigate the case. The accused will be arrested soon,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
