Former Manipur DGP appointed special police observer for MP bypolls

NEW DELHI: Election Commission on Friday appointed ex-IPS officer Mrinal Kanti Das as special police observer for the upcoming assembly bypolls in Madhya Pradesh.
Das, a 1977 batch IPS who had retired as DGP of Manipur police, has been assigned to observe the conduct of bye-elections and poll preparedness, especially with regard to security-related issues, EC said in a statement. He was earlier deputed as special police observer for Delhi assembly election in February 2020, for 2019 Lok Sabha poll in Tripura and Mizoram and for Jharkhand assembly election in 2019.
