‘Udta MP’: Drugs, booze, cash seized as voting day draws nigh

Bhopal, Oct 15 (UNI) As many as 149 Flying squads, 173 Static Surveillance teams and 80 Video Surveillance units are active in Madhya Pradesh for the purpose of monitoring election expenditure in 28 Assembly constituencies of 19 districts where by-polls are taking place.
Besides; 47 Video Viewing teams, 39 Accounts ones and 30 Assistant Expenditure observers are active, an official release said on Thursday.

In the words of Joint Chief Electoral Officer Mohit Bundas, “Liquor, narcotics, vehicles and money amounting to in excess of Rs 11 crore have been confiscated thus far. The Excise Department appropriated 2,84,687 l booze estimated at Rs 1.89 cr and police seized 61,517.6 l worth Rs 2.38 cr. The drug haul is 806.476 kg costing more than a crore.”

Morena, Gwalior, Gwalior East, Dabra, Karera, Anuppur and Sanwer have been identified as expenditure sensitive. Hawala and illegal cash are under priority surveillance.

Hooch tragedy: Cops suspended, Addl CS to probe matter

Bhopal, Oct 15 (UNI) Four law-enforcement personnel were placed under suspension on Thursday in the wake of the death of eight individuals following consumption of illicit liquor in Ujjain, it was officially learnt.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh – in compliance with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s directive – initiated action against Kharakua Station House Officer ML Meena, Sub-Inspector Niranjan Sharma, the Rapid Action Force’s Shaikh Anwar and Constable Nawaz Shareef.
