Punjab: 8 booked after 3 of family attempt suicide; woman, daughter dead, son critical

SANGRUR: The police in Malerkotla of Sangrur district have booked eight persons including a local councillor under sections of IPC including abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy after a middle-aged woman along with her young children consumed poison.
The deceased woman identified as Kavita Jindal, 45, also had left behind a suicide note and blamed some accused including a neighbour for cheating and pressurizing her over financial dues. The deceased had also named a DSP in her suicide note that has gone viral over some social media groups and claimed that the DSP had pressurized and threatened her of case registration if they did not repay the entire amount to the accused.
The police said that both Kavita and her 20-year-old daughter Shivangi succumbed to the injuries however Shivam, 24, was under observation at government hospital Patiala.
The case has been registered on the complaint of Shivam Jindal who has been hospitalized in government Rajindra hospital Patiala. According to the statement of the complainant Shivam, her mother had borrowed a loan of Rs 4 lakh approximately in December 2019 from her neighbour who in return had got pledged blank cheques and gold ornaments from the family. Shivam told the police that later the accused lender forged the documents and demanded Rs 22 lakh as loan amount which was incorrect. Shivam further told the police that the accused had links with the cops and influential people had managed to pressurize the entire family while the DSP on the behest of accused had threatened the family of case registration following which they consumed poison on Thursday.
The police have identified the accused as Manpreet Garg, Ajay Kumar MC, Sandeep Sharma, Hardeep Singh, Mani, Subhan Ali, Hanifa and Ragha Pehalwan of Malerkotla.
Malerkotla City 1, Station House Officer Baljit Singh, said, “We have registered a case against eight accused including a councillor on the complaint of Shivam however no arrests have been made so far but the accused will be nabbed soon.”
