Bihar elections 2020 live updates: PM Modi to hold 12 election rallies in Bihar

Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled less than 2 weeks from now. While the BJP is contesting the polls with the JD (U), the RJD and Congress are in alliance. The LJP has decided to put up candidates against the JD (U), even though it is a constituent of the BJP-led NDA. Stay with TOI for latest updates:

PM Narendra Modi to hold 12 election rallies in Bihar starting from October 23

"PM Modi will hold 12 election rallies in Bihar for NDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidates. On October 23, he will hold rallies in Sasaram, Gaya and Bhagalpur. On October 28, Prime Minister will hold rallies in Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Patna. On November 3, he will hold rallies in Chhapra, East Champaran and Samastipur. On November 3, rallies in West Champaran, Saharsa and Araria will be held," Fadnavis said during a press conference. Meanwhile, Union minister of information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party was born to save a politician from corruption. Read full story

RJD party was born to save a politician from corruption, says Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at a press conference in Patna (ANI)

The CM at that time was of Janata Dal and when his name came to light in a big scam & party pressured the CM to resign then RJD was formed, the minister said.

Patna: JD (U) on Friday expelled its four senior leaders including sitting Rajgir MLA Ravi Jyoti Kumar from primary membership of the party for indulging into the anti-party activities

After denial of ticket from JDU, Ravi Jyoti recently went into Congress. The Congress has now fielded him as its candidate from Rajgir (SC) seat.

It is often a tedious task for the EC to come up with new symbols as the number of smaller parties is growing exponentially. Barring the few major mainstream parties, whose election symbols are known nationally, symbols for debutante parties are adding colour to the electioneering. Former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S), which joined hands with JD(U) and is contesting on seven seats, has got ‘kadhai’ as its party symbol. Party’s spokesperson Danish Rizwan said they had telephone as their party symbol, but voters confused it with a calculator or transistor. Read full story

The EC's advisory, re-issued ahead of the three-phase elections in Bihar beginning later this month, asked the media, both electronic and print, to "refrain" from airing and publishing such programmes during the prohibited period to ensure free, fair and transparent polls. The advisory was first issued on March 30, 2017 in which the poll watchdog cited Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act. The provision states that "no person shall conduct any exit poll and publish or publicise by means of the print and electronic media or disseminate in any other manner, whatsoever, the result of any exit poll during such period as may be notified by the Election Commission. "
