Owing to the pandemic lockdown the star's wedding hall Raghavendra Mandapam was commercially inactive and even those who booked have taken their advance payment back.
Chennai:
Following withdrawal of his petition against Chennai Corporation for charging property tax on Raghavendra Mandapam, his wedding hall, 'Superstar' Rajinikanth has paid his tax.
Chennai Corporation had said that it was unaware of Section 15 of Chennai Corporation act that provides for people to avail remission on property taxes on property that has been inactive for over 30 days.
This section was invoked by Rajinikanth's lawyer Vijayan Subramaniam.
Owing to the pandemic lockdown the star's wedding hall Raghavendra Mandapam was commercially inactive and even those who booked have taken their advance payment back.
The Corporation has also warned two percent fine if Rajinikanth doesn't pay tax by October 15.
The actor has duly paid the full tax amount of Rs 6.5 lakhs and has avoided the fine.
Madras High Court earlier had rebuked Rajini's lawyer for seeking legal intervention without giving time to Chennai Corporation to answer the actor's notice that was issued citing the forementioned pandemic problems.
Court also warned of actions in response to wasting its time
So the petition was withdrawn and the tax has been paid, by doing so Rajinikanth has brought this issue to an end.
