MUMBAI: While the Met department had issued a yellow alert (heavy rain at isolated places) on Wednesday, the city recorded only traces of rain until 8.30 pm while showers began thereafter. The Met has forecast an orange alert - thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and very heavy rain at isolated places - for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad for Thursday.
From 8.30am to 8.30pm, Santacruz observatory, recorded 1.7mm of rain while the Colaba observatory recorded 0.8mm. Neighbouring Thane and Navi Mumbai recorded 3.1mm and 30.2mm rain respectively.
A yellow alert is in place for Mumbai and Thane for Friday but the orange alert will continue for Raigad.
Also, the city's overall air quality index at 90 was back into the satisfactory category on Wednesday, vis-a-vis 121 recorded on Tuesday.
