Bhubaneswar,Oct 15 (UNI) With the detection of 2470 new covid positive cases during the past 24 hours, the total number of positive cases in Odisha today mounted to 2,62,011.

The state Health and Family Welfare Department sources said of the 2470 new positive cases, 1462 are quarantined and 1008 are local contacts.

Six districts reported a daily spike of more than 100 positive cases during the last 24 hours.

Khordha District reported the highest number of 368 positive cases followed by Cuttack 186, Anugul 170, Sundergarha 161, Mayurbhanja 134 and Balasore 106 positive cases.

During the past 24hours as many as 17 covid patients, including five females, succumbed to the dreaded virus in the state taking taking the total death toll due to COVID in the state to 1089.

While four deaths were reported from Bhubaneswar, three fatalities were reported from Cuttack. Ganjam and Sundergarha reported two deaths each and Nayagarha, Balasore, Jajpur, Boudh, Kalahandi and Rourkela reported one death each.

During the period 2775 covid positive cases have recovered and discharged from hospital. With this the number of total recoveries now stands at 2,35,763.

The state has now 25106 active cases, the Health and Family Welfare department sources said.
