Tamil Nadu Ilangyar Katchi to contest all 234-seats in Assembly polls

Chennai, Oct 15 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Ilangyar Katchi (TIK),
a political outfit formed in the aftermath of the massive Marina
Jallikattu protest in January 2017, on Thursday announced
that it would contest all the 234 seats in the Assembly elections
due in April-May next year.
Talking to reporters, TIK State General Secretary Dr Rajasekar,
on the occasion of former President APJ Abdul Kalam's 89th birth
anniversary, called upon all the youths to join the TIK to script a
new history in the elections.
The TIK was aware that people nursing political ambitions were
present in various political parties. ''In a bid to make Tamil Nadu
the number one state, we invite all the people to join us in serving
the people'', he added.
He said the TIK had contested the bypoll to RK Nagar Assembly
seat in 2017 and finished sixth with the support of the youth and
also contested 16 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and became
sixth largest in terms of vote bank.
People in several political parties, despite the injustices meted out
to them are tolerating them and remain in those parties. This is an
invitation to all of them, he said, adding, ''we assure that there is no
and will not be any dynasty politics here...we have created a platform
for all to work in unison''.
He said with 65 per cent of the population below 35 years of
age, it makes India the youngest country in the world. But the
youths were not given enough opportunities and only the aged
and the elders were getting preference in Parliament and State
Legislatures.
''Had more opportunities were given to the youth, India's growth
would have been rapid and it would have long become a super
power'', he noted.
Dr Rajasekar said the TIK was prepared to face the 2021 Assembly
polls by contesting in all the 234 seats and those wishing to enter
politics and contest the polls were welcome to create a new history
in the elections.
