PUNE: Pimpri Chinchwad police have taken action against 155 people in the last 20 days for their involvement in social crimes, such as gambling, flesh trade and illegal sale of liquor.

Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Krishna Prakash has set up two special squads comprising officers and personnel from the police’s social security cell for this purpose.
These squads have so far carried out raids at 10 spots and busted seven gambling dens, two illicit liquor dens and a sex racket.
“People involved in social crimes often tend to commit bigger crimes as they do not have any fear of the law,” he said, adding, “We have started taking action against them at the initial stage itself.” The commissioner has shared his cellphone number to the public and also made an appeal to them to alert him by sending text messages about any illegal activities they notice in their areas.
“I have been receiving messages and we have taken actions, too,” the police commissioner further said.
Police inspectors Prasad Gokule and Vithhal Kubade are leading the squads of the social security cell.
On Monday night, Kubade and his team raided a gambling den at Laltopinagar in Pimpri. Police have filed cases against 19 people. In the last month, the squad had rescued two women from as sex racket.
