Delicious apple recipes

With the advent of October, winter has come knocking at our doors. Mornings and evenings have started to get a bit chilly and afternoons—pleasant and soothingly warm. Also, as the temperature has started to drop, a plethora of fruits and vegetables are now available in the market. They are as fresh as they could be and are bursting will flavours.


One fruit that is ready to be harvested and plucked is apple. Social media is brimming with pictures from Kashmir where the fruit is being harvested in full swing. Within no time, the apples will be packed in wooden crates and transported all across India. It is a fruit that is much loved by everyone. Moreover, apples are rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, all of which benefit health. They also provide an array of antioxidants. 02/6​Apple Butter

​Apple Butter

1. Add 12 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced), 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg, 1/2 tsp. ground cloves, 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, and 1/4 tsp. ground ginger into a deep cooking pot.


2. Cover and cook on low flame until apples are deeply golden and falling apart.


3. Using a blender, blend apples until smooth. Pour apple butter into jars and let it cool to room temperature. Cover and store in refrigerator.

​Apple Chips

1. Preheat oven to 200°. In a large bowl, toss 2 thinly sliced apples with 2 tsp. sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.


2. Place a metal rack inside a rimmed baking sheet. Lay apples slices on top of rack, spacing them so that no apples overlap.


3. Bake for 2 to 3 hours, flipping apples halfway through, until apples dried out but still pliable.

​Instant Pot Applesauce

1. Combine 1 kg apples (peeled, cored and chopped), 3/4 cup water, 2 tbsp. brown sugar, 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. kosher salt in instant pot and stir to mix.


2. Secure instant pot lid and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes.


3. Let natural release for 10 minutes and then quick release for remaining steam. Remove lid, stir, and serve.

​Apple Halwa

1. Wash 1 kg apples and peel them. Cut into slices and run them into a food processor till the apples are finely grind.


2. In a pan heat 5 tbsp. ghee on medium heat. Once hot, add the apples.


3. Cook the apples till all the water is evaporated.


4. Now add 1/2 cup sugar and mix. Also add 1 tsp. cinnamon powder, 1 tsp. nutmeg and 1 tsp. cardamom powder.


5. Cook for 5 minutes stirring continuously till all water evaporates.


6. Garnish with sliced almonds and serve hot.

​Apple Crumble

1. Preheat oven to 350° and grease a large baking dish with butter. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1.5 cup flour, 1 cup chopped walnuts, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Stir in 3/4 cup melted butter until texture is coarse and sandy.


2. Add 6 chopped apples, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 tsp. ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. ground ginger, and 1 tsp. lemon juice to baking dish and toss to combine. Spread in an even layer, then press crumb mixture on top of apples. Bake until apples are bubbling and topping is golden, about 50 minutes.


3. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream (optional).
