Man wanted for over 40 break-ins held in Palghar

MUMBAI: Police arrested a 31-year-old man from Palghar who has committed at least five house break-ins in Vile Parle (East) in the last two years. Vile Parle police team nabbed the accused Aatish Sakharkar on Tuesday night after they moved around wearing caps to look as local after learning that most of the people residing in Vasai Palghar localities wear caps.
Sakharkar has committed all break-ins wearing a black cap, and cutting the window iron grille in less than 20 minutes. During lockdown, he splurged on parties with friends and bought gifts for his girlfriend with the booty of Rs 19.56 lakh.
Sakharkar committed the first house break-in when he was 15 and till date, he has committed at least 48 break-ins in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Thane Rural and Palghar.
Police started hunting for Sakharkar after his last theft of Rs 18.35 lakh at a businessman's third floor flat in Vile Parle in March.
