MANGALURU: With the pandemic scare, even marathons have gone virtual. The Big Balipu 2020, a charity marathon, organized by Mangalore Round Table and Mangalore Ladies Circle, will be on virtual mode.
Participants can either run or walk a distance of 2 kms, 5 kms, 10 kms or 21 kms, between 5am on October 17 and 11am on October 18 at a location of their convenience. They need to track their activity using apps available for the same. Once the activity is done the participant will have to submit details along with a screen shot of the same on the form provided on the www.bigbalipu.com website.
A release from the organizers stated that anybody can register for a virtual marathon on the website. The proceeds from the event will go towards renovation of a Karunya Special School, Malpe, Udupi. Karunya Special School, operating inside an old building in Udupi, will be moving to a new location due to increase in student strength. The new location needs to be renovated to bring it to standards and cater to the needs of the special children.
In the past MRT115 and MLC82 have contributed towards the school fees for children, provided grocery kits to the needy during the recent lock down, built classrooms and toilet blocks in government schools, donated furniture and renovated classrooms in government schools.
