Ponda
Throwing caution to the wind, many people in Ponda continue to endanger lives by violating the safety guidelines laid down by the state government in view of the COVID-19
pandemic.
Acting against the violators, Ponda police have till date booked as many as 5,424 individuals, including 71 arrests in the last
five months.
Individuals have been booked for various violations like not wearing face mask or face cover, spitting in public places and acting in a negligent manner, which can spread the infectious disease.
In a bid to prevent the further spread of the viral infection and to control the number of positive cases, both, the central and the state governments have made it compulsory for individuals to wear a face mask or face cover in
public places.
Government agencies have been ordered to take action against those violating the guideline across
the state.
The Ponda police have till date booked 3,677 persons for not wearing face mask or face cover, while 1,676 individuals have been penalised for spitting in public places. The cases have been registered since May this year. Besides, the police registered offences against 71 individuals and arrested them under Sections 188 and 269 of the Indian penal code for acting in a negligent manner, which could lead to a likely spread of COVID-19.
Ponda police inspector Mohan Gaude said, “Police staff has been working tirelessly to ensure the enforcement of government’s guidelines so as to prevent the spread of the virus. Many police personnel also contracted the infection, but soon after their recovery, they continued with their duties while risking their lives for people’s safety.”
