Southern Kings lock JC Astle has joined French club Rouen Normandie Rugby as a medical joker.

Several Kings players are looking for opportunities elsewhere after the announcement that the franchise would take no further part in the 2020 season due to financial woes.

Astle, 30, will head to France for a second time having played for Stade Montois between 2016-2018.

Normandie, a Pro D2 club, says Astle's PRO14 and French club rugby experience will be a "considerable asset".

A medical joker is a common term in French rugby for a player who joins a club as an injury replacement on a short-term basis.
