Mumbai, Hyderabad Rains LIVE Updates: Heavy Rains Across North K'taka, Crops Destroyed; T'gana CM Calls Review Meet, NDRF Teams in Latur, Solapur

The 10 districts are Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Vijayapura in the north region and Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada in the coastal region.

Use Rainwater for Irrigation: Gadkari | Union minister Nitin Gadkari has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, suggesting that rain water from Mumbai be used for irrigation, supply to industries around the city and for horticulture in cities like Nashik and Ahmednagar. Excess water can also be carried to drought-prone areas for domestic and other uses to overcome water scarcity, he said in the letter. This plan can help to solve 'troubles created due to the Mithi river' in Mumbai which has become a critical issue over the years, he said.

At least 19 people were killed since Tuesday night in different areas here in wall and house collapse incidents due to the heavy downpour, officials said. The victims included a toddler.

In Karnataka, heavy rains for the past three days wreaked havoc in some northern parts of the state, causing inundation, crop loss and damage to houses. Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received very heavy rains since Tuesday morning, resulting in water logging in cities and damage to property in the rural areas.

RECAP | K T Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, held an emergency meeting with senior officials and reviewed the rescue and relief operations in Hyderabad. He said several trees and electricity poles were uprooted due to the deluge and directed the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) to coordinate with Municipal Administration and Police Departments to ensure that power is restored at the earliest.

4 Swept Away in Flooded Stream | Four people have been swept away by a swollen stream at Pune in Maharashtra following heavy rain in the district, police said. Besides, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been rushed to a village in Mohol tehsil of neighbouring Solapur district where a flood-like situation arose. In Pune's Khanota village, four people travelling on two motorcycles tried to cross a swollen stream, but got swept away by the water, an official from Daund police station said.

The man seen almost drowning luckily came to a halt after coming across some object while being washed away at Falaknuma locality and was rescued, police said.

Parts of Pune-Solapur Highway Waterlogged Due to Heavy Rains | The traffic on Pune-Solapur Highway was disrupted after parts of the road were flooded due to incessant rains and rise in the level of backwater of Ujani dam on Wednesday evening, the police said. SP Abhinav Deshmukhsaid that as the water has started receding and the rains have stopped, the traffic will be resumed soon. Since Ujani dam, which provides water to Solapur and partsof Marathwada, is filled to the capacity, water is being released at 1.80 lakh cusecs. In Pune city, several low-lying areas reported water logging and power outage was also reported in some parts of the city.

Telangana CM to Chair Meet at 3 PM | Telangana Chief Minister will hold an emergency high-level review meeting at 3 PM on heavy rains and prevailing flood situation in the state. Discussion will also be on the measures so far taken and other measures to be initiated. The CM has asked all the officials concerned to come prepared for the meeting, as the State government has to submit a report to the Centre on the loss caused due to heavy rains and flash floods in the State. The CM has instructed the officials to come with details regarding the losses suffered in their respective department wise due to heavy rains and floods. The review meeting will also discuss about the rehabilitation measures taken, additional measures to be taken and the issues to be mentioned in the Report to be submitted to the Centre.

National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) had sent two teams to Karnataka and three teams to Maharashtra for rescue operations. Of the three teams deployed in Maharashtra, one team each is in Solapur, Pune's Indapur, and in Latur: NDRF.

Maharashtra's Savitribai Phule Pune University has postponed the online and offline examinations scheduled for today, due to heavy rainfall alert. Revised schedule to be announced later.

Strong wind speed reaching 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph is very likely to prevail around the system centre and over Maharashtra during next 12 hours and gradually decrease thereafter. Damage is expected to paddy crops, banana, papaya trees, drumstick trees and Horticultural crops. Flooding/water logging in low lying areas, disruption of surface transport, landslides, water pooling are also expected in the affected areas: India Meteorological Department (IMD).

At least 10 and 15 people were killed in rain-related incidents across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively, following torrential downpour in the last 48 hours.
