Acceptance of demands big success, will continue to strive for Maratha reservation: MRSC

Kolhapur, Oct 14 (UNI) Though the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has accepted 10 out of 15 demands, the Maratha Reservation Struggle Committee(MRSC) will continue to strive for the fulfilment of the Maratha reservation, stated MRSC Coordinator Suresh Patil on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Patil told a Maharashtra 'bandh' was to be held on October 10 as it was decided in the Sept 23 roundtable conference attended by more than 50 Maratha community outfits coming from across the state.
However, he continued, that the 'bandh' was called off as the government held a meet on October 8. During which, CM Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and PWD Minister Ashok Chavan discussed the issue with the stakeholders concerned with the issue.
Finally, they heeded to the ten demands, including giving reservation under the Economically Weaker Section category, deferring the MPSC exams, constructing hostels in every district for the Maratha students, provisioning of multi-crores corpuses for the SARTHI and Annasaheb Patil institutions, he said.
In contrast to the MRSC' version, the government has cited the COVID-19 crisis as the reason for the MPSC exams deferment.
Terming the acceptance of their demands as a "big success", Mr Patil apprised that the ruling dispensation has also agreed to withdraw criminal cases against those who agitated for the reservation cause in a month's time.
