KOLKATA: A car that was stopped on Sarat Bose Road by the Bhowanipore police on the suspicion that it is being used to ferry drugs for students of some Kolkata and Howrah’s educational institutes and medical colleges, led to the recovery of 72kg ganja worth Rs 6 lakh on Monday evening.
While one person, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari (43), was arrested, two other managed to flee from the spot.
The arrest of Tiwari was dramatic. “We had received a specific information about a hatchback transporting drugs. On suspicion, we stopped the car on the busy road,” said an investigating officer.
The officer added: “As soon as they were stopped, the three men occupying the car jumped off and began to run. Our officers chased the three and managed to get hold of Tiwari. The drugs were stacked in four bags, which were kept at the back of the car. We have leads on the other two accused and hope to nab them soon,” said an officer.
