Tamil Nadu records 4,462 new COVID-19 cases, 52 deaths

Chennai, Oct 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu reported 4,462 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the total number of infections to 6,70,392 while 52 more fatalities related to the virus took the death toll to 10,423.



Health department in its bulletin said of the 52 deaths, 31 were reported in government hospitals and 21 in private hospitals.



The total number of active cases stood at 42,566.


A record number of 95,538 samples were tested by RT-PCR in the last 24 hours taking the total number of samples tested till date to 85,84,041.


A total of 5,083 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recovered cases to 6,17,403.



Chennai recorded 1,130 fresh cases today, taking the city’s caseload to 1,85,573 while the death toll increased to 3,452 with 11 more fatalities.

Madurai, Oct 14 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the CBI to file its counter on the bail petition moved by suspended Sub Inspector of Police of Sathankulam police station, P.Raghu Ganesh who was arrested in connection with the custodial deaths of trader P.Jayaraj and his son J.Bennicks.
