BATHINDA: The paddy stubble burning cases in Punjab continue rising unabated. It has started making its impact on the air quality in the region. A total of 240 crop residue burning cases were reported on Tuesday, a drop from 363 on Sunday, which was maximum so far out of the last 23 days, when the stubble burning started in Punjab on September 21.
With this, the total count of stubble burning incidents on Tuesday reached 3,113. As data recorded by the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) showed, the crop residue burning cases in the ongoing year are more than the burning cases recorded in the last five years.
Border district of Tarn Taran witnessed the maximum 59 cases on Tuesday, Amritsar recorded 43 cases and Patiala recorded 24 burning cases. Overall Amritsar is way ahead of other districts with 1,154 burning cases, so far out of 3,113 stubble burning case; the adjoining Tarn Taran is following it with 724 cases, whereas CM Amarinder Singh’s home district of Patiala is at third spot with 275 burning cases.
The air quality at Delhi is worsening with PM 2.5 recorded at the average of 291, which falls in poor quality. The air quality in Punjab remained in moderate category with air index at Ludhiana was recorded on the average at 215, in Amritsar at 147, Jalandhar art 140, Patiala at 126 and Bathinda at 101.
