Cops close in on Sube Gujjar gang with arrests of 2 more members

Gurgaon: A week after three sharpshooters of the notorious Sube Gujjar gang were nabbed by the crime branch of Gurgaon police after a brief exchange of fire in Sohna, a similar gunfight near the Hasanpur-Darbari intersection in Badshapur led to the arrests of their two accomplices on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Jaibir Gujjar and Ved Prakash, who were primarily tasked with identifying potential targets for extortion. And with the arrest of the five members of the gang in the past one week, police claimed to have broken the backbone of the Sube Gujjar gang, which had been rapidly expanding its extortion network in Gurgaon and adjoining areas.
Sube Gujjar, who had split from the Kaushal gang two years back to form his own gang, carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. At present, the Sube Gujjar gang is the only one active in Gurgaon.
The latest arrests also came on a tip-off. Police said the crime unit of Sector 39, led by sub-inspector Raj Kumar, got the alert about the movement of the two Sube Gang members in Badshapur. Without wasting time, the crime unit formed a special team and set up a checkpost at the busy Hasanpur-Darbari Mod.
ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said, “As soon as the team spotted the duo on a two-wheeler without a number plate and tried to stop them, the accused hit a barricade while trying to escape. When the crime team started chasing them, the one riding pillion opened fire. However, after a brief chase and exchange of fire, our team nabbed the other two.”
During interrogation, Jaibir and Ved, both residents of Bar Gujjar, told cops that they used to collect information about potential targets. A case has been registered against them at Badshapur police station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and under the Arms Act. “It’s possible they were in the area for identifying potential targets for extortion,” the ACP said.
On October 6, the same crime unit arrested three sharpshooters of the Sube Gujjar gang — Rajesh Fouji, Kamal alias Kamli and Aman Munidya — after a brief exchange of fire, in which two of the criminals and two cops had sustained injuries.
