JAIPUR: Jaipur Rural police seized a truck which was being used to smuggle liquor from Haryana to Gujarat. They recovered 360 cartons of alcohol worth Rs 30 lakh and arrested the truck driver in Shahpura. The driver was identified as 28-year-old Kashmir Singh who hails from Punjab. “We had received information that liquor was being smuggled in this particular truck and we caught the accused at a check point. The cartons were hidden beneath piles of hay to camouflage the odour of liquor. After search, we seized the cartons,” said a police official.
To evade arrest, the truck driver would regularly change the vehicle’s number plate, police said. “We are questioning the driver to find the source of the liquor and the smuggling network. Usually, liquor is smuggled to the neighbouring states. We ensure that when the smugglers are in Rajasthan, we apprehend them. Strict vigil is being kept on the highways,” said the official.
Recently, Bhiwadi police raided a liquor factory and arrested five persons including the supervisor for making Indian Made Foreign Liquor while having licence to only produce country liquor.
