A coffee table book showcasing the 450-year history of St Andrew’s Church, Vasco was released by the Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao at the Bishop’s Palace, Altinho.
Parish priest of the St Andrew’s church, Vasco and convenor of the book committee, Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Fabrica attorney and co-convenor of the book committee, Savio Messias and book committee members were also present at the book release. The coffee table book was released as part of the 450-year celebrations of St Andrew’s Church, Vasco.
Speaking on the occasion, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao hailed the efforts that went into bringing out this book which he said would renew and deepen the faith of the people belonging to this parish church.
Fr Gabriel Coutinho said that the 450-year celebrations were a huge success and praised all the various committees that were formed, who he said worked unitedly to make the celebrations
a success.
Messias said that it was always his desire to document the history of Vasco church and hence he floated the idea.
He admitted that it was not an easy task to get information on the people who were instrumental in developing and looking after this church over the ages.
The book brings out some interesting facets of historical interest about St Andrew’s Church, through its 450-year journey.
The coffee table book also brings out the architectural history of the church, apart from focusing on the various chapels affiliated to it. The list of priests that have served in the parish of St Andrew’s has also been
listed.
